Matcha Affogato – Summer's Easiest and Most Delicious Dessert
A classic affogato is already perfect – a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with a warm espresso shot. But swap the coffee for a shot of ceremonial grade matcha for summer's most delicious dessert. The deep green matcha meets the sweet, creamy ice cream and creates a combination that's just as easy to make as it is impossible to put down.
Ingredients – 1 serving
- 1–2 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 2 g Zenzi Matcha
- Strawberries or sprinkles (optional)
How to Make It
- Place one or two scoops of vanilla ice cream in a glass or bowl.
- Prepare your matcha shot – whisk 2 g of Zenzi Matcha with a splash of warm water (70–80°C) until smooth and frothy, or brew a shot directly using our Nespresso-compatible matcha pods.
- Pour the warm matcha shot over the ice cream.
- Top with fresh strawberries or sprinkles for an extra festive and summery touch.
- Serve immediately – before the ice cream melts too much.
Tips
Serve in a clear glass so you can see the beautiful layers of green matcha and white ice cream meeting. It looks just as impressive as it tastes.
Why Ceremonial Grade?
An affogato is simple – which means every ingredient shows and is tasted. Ceremonial grade matcha from Uji, Japan, delivers a naturally deep matcha flavour with zero bitterness that complements the sweetness of vanilla ice cream perfectly. With culinary grade you risk a bitter, sharp shot that overpowers the whole dessert.
Zenzi Matcha is organic, harvested from the youngest leaves of the first harvest and brings the smooth, balanced matcha flavour this dessert deserves.
